My sixteen-year-old daughter, Hailey, came home carrying a newborn.

“I found him alone on the bus,” she whispered.

When I reached for my phone to call the police, she panicked.

“Mom, please! Read this first.”

Tucked inside the blanket was a note signed by Claire—my sister, whom I hadn’t spoken to in eight years.

Claire was ill and needed someone to protect her four-day-old son, Noah. Hailey admitted she’d met Claire after reconnecting online and had invented the bus story because she feared my reaction.

I called emergency services. Noah was examined, and Claire was located at a clinic.

When we reunited, Claire showed me messages supposedly sent by me.

“Stay away. I want nothing to do with you.”

I had never written them.

For years, I’d sent birthday cards and emails, believing Claire had ignored me. She’d been told the same about me.

We confronted our mother, who confessed she’d created the fake account, intercepted our letters, and lied to keep us apart. She’d even taken money from our late father’s savings and blamed Claire.

Eight years of sisterhood, stolen to hide her secret.

We demanded the financial records and stopped letting Mom speak for either of us.

Days later, Claire arrived with Noah.

“Can we stay for dinner?”

I opened the door wider.

“You never have to ask.”

My sixteen-year-old daughter, Hailey, came home carrying a newborn. “I found him alone on the bus,” she whispered.
