I had been cleaning for the same family for almost six months when I arrived one morning and found a note on the kitchen counter.
\nIt said they had hidden fifteen coins in \u201chard-to-reach places\u201d around the house.
\nIf I found them all, apparently that would prove I had cleaned properly.
\nI was insulted.
\nStill, I did my job.
\nI cleaned behind furniture, under cabinets, along baseboards, and even underneath the guest-room bed.
\nBy the end of the afternoon, I had found all fifteen coins.
\nInstead of keeping them, I lined them neatly on the kitchen counter.
\nThen I left one thing behind.
\nA sealed envelope.
\nA few hours later, the wife called me sounding panicked.<\/p>\n
