Before we had children, I worked as a graphic designer. I loved my job, but after our third baby, we agreed I’d stay home.<\/p>\n
At first, everything was fine.<\/p>\n
Then my husband started making little comments about how lucky I was not to work.<\/p>\n
One Friday morning, he couldn’t find a clean shirt and started yelling.<\/p>\n
“What do you actually do all day?”<\/p>\n
I was tired of explaining.<\/p>\n
So that evening, I told him I was spending the weekend at my sister’s. He’d be responsible for the kids, who were six, eight, and ten.<\/p>\n
He shrugged.<\/p>\n
“How hard can it be?”<\/p>\n
Saturday morning, I left.<\/p>\n
By noon, he’d called six times.<\/p>\n
Where were the soccer uniforms? What time was swimming? Why wasn’t there any milk?<\/p>\n

I’d been keeping a notebook with school schedules, appointments, grocery lists, bills, and everything else our family needed.<\/p>\n
He’d never noticed it before.<\/p>\n
When I came home Sunday evening, dinner was ready.<\/p>\n
The house was messy, but the kids were happy.<\/p>\n
He apologized again.<\/p>\n
We finally discussed how to divide responsibilities properly.<\/p>\n
