Every year, my husband and I host a Fourth of July barbecue. It started small and grew into a tradition we both cherished. I handled the decorations, side dishes, and desserts; he ran the grill and fireworks. Family came, neighbors drifted in, and by nightfall our backyard glowed with string lights, folding chairs, and familiar laughter. It felt like ours<\/em>\u2014a simple, shared ritual that marked the heart of summer.<\/p>\n

So when he mentioned, almost offhandedly, that this year he wanted a \u201cguys-only\u201d barbecue at our house, I was caught off guard. I didn\u2019t argue. Wanting space is normal, I told myself.
