I\u2019m 75, and I used to believe evil looked obvious. Turns out, sometimes it shows up with perfect makeup, a designer bag, and fake tears.<\/p>\n

My husband George and I built our farmhouse outside Lancaster, Ohio from scratch. It wasn\u2019t fancy, but it was ours\u2014full of memories, sweat, and love. We raised our son, Adam, there. When he married Tara, I tried to welcome her, even though something always felt off.<\/p>\n

Then Adam died suddenly of a heart attack. Two months later, George followed\u2014heart failure, they said. I knew it was grief.<\/p>\n

That winter, Tara appeared at my door with a suitcase and a bottle of wine. She sold Adam\u2019s house, moved into mine, and slowly erased my life\u2014packing away photos, tossing George\u2019s chair, throwing loud parties. Then she crossed the line: she locked me out and forced me to sleep in the old barn on a moldy yoga mat, claiming the house was \u201chers now.\u201d<\/p>\n

But she\u2019d underestimated one thing.<\/p>\n

During one of her \u201ccomeback\u201d parties, the house caught fire. Tara tried to claim ownership and file insurance\u2014only to find out the deed and policy were still in my name. Her claim was denied. Mine wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Two days later, the sheriff served her eviction.<\/p>\n
