I\u2019m looking for some outside perspective on a situation in my blended family.<\/p>\n

I remarried two years ago. My husband has a daughter from his previous marriage who stays with us every other week. From the beginning, I tried to be kind and supportive\u2014cooking for her, helping with homework, and building a friendly relationship. But I\u2019ve always made one thing clear: I\u2019m not trying to replace her mom.<\/p>\n

One morning, my husband was out of town for work and I was rushing to finish an important project. As I was getting ready, my stepdaughter called me from her room. When I checked on her, she had a fever and looked sick.<\/p>\n

I immediately tried calling her mom several times and sent texts, but she didn\u2019t respond. I was stuck with a decision: miss work and stay home, or go in and hope her mom would eventually respond. I chose to go to work. I gave my stepdaughter medicine, left water nearby, turned on a fan, and asked a neighbor to check on her until one of her parents arrived.<\/p>\n

When I got home, I found my husband and his ex sitting together in my stepdaughter\u2019s room holding her hands. They looked at me like I\u2019d done something terrible. My husband accused me of abandoning his daughter and said if I loved her like my own, I would have stayed.<\/p>\n
