Prom was supposed to be magical. For me, it meant one thing: wearing my late mom\u2019s lavender dress\u2014the one she wore to her own prom. She passed away when I was 12, and that dress was the closest I still had to her.<\/p>\n

Then came my stepmom, Stephanie.<\/p>\n

From the moment she saw it, she mocked it\u2014called it outdated, embarrassing, and beneath \u201cour image.\u201d She wanted me to wear an expensive designer dress instead. I refused.<\/p>\n

The morning of prom, I opened the garment bag\u2014and my heart shattered.<\/p>\n

The dress was ripped, stained, and ruined.<\/p>\n

Stephanie stood in the doorway, smirking. \u201cI warned you,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
