Stella, 85, nervously boarded her very first flight and made her way to her business-class seat, excited for a journey she had waited a lifetime to take.<\/p>\n

But the man beside her, Franklin Delaney, immediately complained. \u201cI don\u2019t want to sit next to her!\u201d he shouted, insisting someone dressed like Stella couldn\u2019t possibly afford the seat.<\/p>\n

Embarrassed, Stella offered to move to economy, but the flight attendant refused. \u201cYou paid for this seat, and you belong here,\u201d she told her kindly.<\/p>\n

After takeoff, Stella accidentally dropped her purse, and Franklin helped pick up her things. A ruby locket fell out, catching his attention. Curious, he asked about it, and Stella shared the heartbreaking story behind it\u2014her father had given it to her mother before leaving for World War II, never to return.<\/p>\n

As they talked, Stella revealed the real reason for her trip. Decades earlier, she had given up her baby boy for adoption because she couldn\u2019t provide for him. Years later, she found him through DNA testing, but he wanted nothing to do with her.<\/p>\n

Still, Stella had boarded the flight for one reason\u2014her son was the pilot, and it was his birthday. She simply wanted to be close to him.<\/p>\n
