David and I had been together for three years, engaged for six months. I tried hard to fit in with his friends, to feel like I belonged.<\/p>\n

At dinner, everything seemed fine\u2014until one question changed it all. When I was asked about travel, David cut in with a smirk, mocking me in front of everyone. The table laughed. My chest tightened.<\/p>\n

I waited for him to realize, to backtrack\u2014but he didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Instead, it continued. Joke after joke at my expense. About how I think too much, how I\u2019m \u201ctoo sensitive,\u201d how I take too long to decide. Each laugh made me feel smaller.<\/p>\n

Then something clicked.<\/p>\n

Why was I sitting there, letting myself be humiliated?<\/p>\n
