The flat I\u2019d been renting was put up for sale, so I had no choice but to move out. Before leaving, I made sure everything was spotless\u2014every corner cleaned, everything in its place. I wanted to leave on a good note.<\/p>\n

The next day, my phone rang. It was my landlady.<\/p>\n

My heart skipped a beat. I immediately thought something had gone wrong\u2014that maybe I had missed something or broken something without realizing it.<\/p>\n

But instead, she surprised me.<\/p>\n
