I manage a busy team, and most days I\u2019m the one holding everything together\u2014fixing problems, covering gaps, and saying yes when others can\u2019t. But recently, something happened that forced me to draw a boundary.<\/p>\n

My dad had a serious surgery with a tough recovery. I took approved PTO to support my family and made sure everything at work was handled before I left. Right before the procedure, my boss texted me about an \u201curgent\u201d meeting. I explained I was on leave at the hospital and couldn\u2019t join.<\/p>\n

His reply? \u201cJust join from home, it\u2019s not that hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t sit right. I wasn\u2019t working remotely\u2014I was caring for my dad. So I agreed to the meeting, but added HR. Instead of discussing the original topic, I calmly explained the situation: I was being pressured to work during approved leave for a family medical matter.<\/p>\n

Now things feel tense. My boss is distant, and some coworkers think I overreacted\u2014that I could\u2019ve joined briefly to keep the peace. Others quietly support me, saying they wish they had done the same in similar situations.<\/p>\n

I feel conflicted. I understand the pressure my boss faces, but I also know boundaries matter. If I don\u2019t set them now, when will I?<\/p>\n
