When I first noticed Ruth sitting beneath the awning of an abandoned pharmacy, I assumed she had nowhere else to go.<\/p>\n

She never asked for money. She simply smiled whenever I brought her soup, fruit, or a sandwich after my shift at the library. Over time, helping her became part of my routine.<\/p>\n

Some neighbors thought I was foolish.<\/p>\n

But Ruth always thanked me as though I had handed her something priceless. Occasionally, she spoke about books, architecture, and cities she had visited long ago. Her knowledge surprised me, yet she avoided questions about her past.<\/p>\n

Her final gift to me was a small wooden box containing handwritten notes about every meal we had shared.<\/p>\n
