My eight-year-old daughter, Ava, came back from her father\u2019s house unusually quiet.<\/p>\n

Her hair was full of glitter, and both forearms were covered in a red, irritated rash.<\/p>\n

When I asked what happened, she just said, \u201cWe made slime.\u201d<\/p>\n

Something about her answer felt off.<\/p>\n

I texted my ex immediately.<\/p>\n

He said he had been out most of the day and that his girlfriend had watched Ava.<\/p>\n

That bothered me, but Ava insisted she was fine.<\/p>\n

A few hours later, she woke up screaming.<\/p>\n

When I rushed into her room and turned on the light, I saw sticky glittery residue smeared across her sheets and arms.<\/p>\n

I panicked.<\/p>\n

Then Ava finally admitted what had happened.<\/p>\n

Her dad\u2019s girlfriend had hosted a craft party for several kids and used a homemade \u201cslime\u201d mixture with scented detergent, glue, and cosmetic glitter.<\/p>\n

Ava\u2019s skin had started burning almost immediately, but she was told to stop complaining because everyone else was fine.<\/p>\n

She had been too embarrassed to tell me.<\/p>\n

I called her pediatrician and followed their advice. Thankfully, it was a skin reaction and improved with treatment.<\/p>\n

But I was furious that an adult had ignored her discomfort.<\/p>\n
