My 18-Year-Old Son Moved in with His Best Friend – Two Days Later, He Came Home Crying and Said, ‘Mom, I Need to Confess Something’

When my son Luke came home crying and begged me not to call his best friend Ben, I knew something was wrong.
Luke and Ben had been inseparable since childhood. People even joked that they looked like twins.
Then Luke handed me a document he’d found at Ben’s house.
Ben had been adopted.
But the paperwork showed something impossible: the same hospital, the same date, and details connected to Luke’s birth.
I went to the hospital searching for answers.
A midwife who remembered my delivery told me the truth.
I had given birth to twins.
Both babies were alive.
Eighteen years earlier, after a difficult delivery, I’d been heavily sedated. My husband Mark told me one baby had died.
He lied.
Hospital records later showed an adoption file for my second son, Benjamin, with my name on the consent form.
But I had never signed it.
Mark had been nineteen, terrified, and convinced we couldn’t raise two babies. Instead of asking me, he made the choice himself.
When I returned home, Luke and Ben were waiting.
“You were a twin,” I told Luke.
Then I looked at Ben.
“You’re my son.”
Ben began crying, but immediately looked toward Diane, the woman who had raised him.
“She’s still my mom.”
“Of course she is,” I said. “I’m not here to replace her.”
Then Ben asked softly, “What if I want both of you?”
My eyes filled.
“Then you get both of us.”
For eighteen years, everyone joked that Luke and Ben looked like twins.
The truth had been standing in front of us all along.
