My MIL Secretly DNA-Tested My Daughter — Then My Mom Exposed Her Mistake

My mother-in-law, Evelyn, had never fully trusted me.
She adored her son and always seemed to believe no woman was good enough for him.
Still, I never expected what happened at our Father’s Day dinner.
Halfway through the meal, Evelyn suddenly stood up holding several papers.
Then she pointed at me and shouted, “Jessica, you lied! You cheated on my son. This little girl isn’t my granddaughter, and I have DNA results to prove it!”
The entire table went silent.
My husband looked stunned.
I could barely speak.
Then my mother calmly asked to see the papers.
She read them for a few seconds and started smiling.
Evelyn became irritated.
“What’s so funny?”
Mom looked up and said, “Because this test doesn’t compare your son to the child.”
Everyone leaned closer.
The sample Evelyn had secretly collected had been mixed up.
Instead of using my husband’s toothbrush, she had taken one belonging to his visiting cousin, who had stayed with us the week before.
The test only proved that my daughter wasn’t biologically related to that cousin in the way Evelyn assumed.
My husband immediately ordered a proper paternity test.
Days later, the result came back: 99.9%.
He was her father.
Evelyn apologized, but the damage was already done.
My husband looked at her and said, “You weren’t trying to find the truth. You were trying to prove Jessica guilty.”
After that, she was never allowed to make decisions involving our daughter again.
