My MIL Ordered Me a Dress Four Sizes Too Small for Her Party, Saying, ‘It’s Time for You to Lose Weight’ – Karma Didn’t Take Long to Catch up with Her

My mother-in-law ordered me a dress four sizes too small for her 40th anniversary party. When I called about the mistake, she laughed.

“You have two weeks to lose weight,” Clara said.

I’d given birth just three months earlier.

My husband, Simon, was furious. We bought a comfortable dress instead, and I wore it to the party.

Clara took one look at me. “That looks cheap. My son deserves a more attractive wife.”

Simon finally spoke up, but I escaped to the restroom before I started crying.

There, I overheard two women complaining that Clara had also dictated alterations to their dresses.

Then shouting erupted outside.

A boutique representative had arrived with several gowns Clara had ordered. Apparently, Clara had disputed the remaining charges but refused to return the dresses. The restaurant manager called the police.

While officers sorted things out, the representative showed us Clara’s order records.

My actual size had been entered correctly—then deliberately changed to four sizes smaller, with instructions not to substitute a larger one.

Worse, Clara had drawn a diagram for the family photograph. Beside my name: “BACK EDGE. SIMON FRONT.”

She’d planned to hide me.

Simon told her she would never control my body or place in the family again.

For the photograph, I stood proudly beside him—in the dress I chose.
