I Wrote a Funny Warning on My Husband’s Shirt Before His Christmas Party — Someone Wrote Back

My husband had his company Christmas party last Friday.
They were doing a funny T-shirt contest, so before he left, I grabbed a marker and wrote across his shirt:
“This husband is taken. Please return him by midnight.”
He laughed, kissed me goodbye, and promised he wouldn’t stay out late.
Well, he came home around three in the morning.
He was tipsy but in a great mood.
I helped him get changed because he could barely keep his eyes open.
That’s when I noticed writing on the back of his shirt.
Someone had added:
“Then ask him why he’s been telling everyone you’re separated.”
I read it three times.
The next morning, I showed him the shirt.
He immediately stopped smiling.
At first, he claimed someone was playing a joke.
Then I asked him directly whether he’d been telling people we weren’t together.
He admitted he’d told a woman from another department that our marriage was struggling.
Apparently, they’d been texting for weeks.
He insisted nothing physical had happened.
I asked to see the messages.
He hesitated.
That told me enough.
I wasn’t upset about the Christmas party or even the stupid joke.
I was upset because someone at his office knew more about my marriage than I did.
And whoever wrote that message had apparently decided I deserved to know.
