Wife Got a Thank-You Card for a Wedding She Never Attended – Her Husband Had Paid Another Woman to Pose as ‘His Wife’

After 16 years of marriage, I received a thank-you card for a wedding I’d never attended.
“Rebecca, thank you for saving my dress!” the bride wrote.
My husband Mark claimed the bride had confused me with someone else. But when I contacted her, she sent a photograph showing Mark with another woman—introduced as his wife.
The woman, Lauren, called me. She was an actress Mark had paid $700 to impersonate me.
Then she sent his instructions.
According to Mark, I was a wealthy corporate attorney from a successful family. In reality, I worked part-time as a teaching assistant after years of raising our two children.
When I confronted him, he admitted he’d been lying to his college friends for two years. He’d invented expensive vacations, a mansion, and my glamorous career because he felt inferior to their success.
He even hired a stranger for the wedding because he feared I’d reveal the truth.
What hurt most wasn’t the money. It was realizing the life I’d built with him embarrassed him.
Mark moved out. He confessed to his friends and started counseling. We’re also trying marriage counseling, but I still don’t know if I can trust him.
I love him. Yet if our marriage survives, he’ll have to respect the woman he actually married—not the one he paid to invent.
