I Accidentally Revealed My Son’s Biggest Secret to His Pregnant Wife — She Had No Idea Who Tom Was

My son, Jason, and his wife, Emily, are expecting a baby girl in December.

Last Sunday, Emily came over for lunch while Jason was working.

We started talking about baby names, decorating the nursery, and what kind of father Jason would be.

Then I made a comment without thinking.

“I wish little Tommy could have met his sister.”

Emily stopped eating.

“Who’s Tommy?”

I looked at her, confused.

“Jason never told you?”

She shook her head.

That’s when I realized I’d made a terrible mistake.

Before Jason met Emily, he’d been in a relationship with another woman.

They had a son named Thomas.

Tommy was four when he died from complications of a heart condition.

Jason was devastated.

He stopped talking about his son, moved to another city, and eventually met Emily.

I assumed she’d known.

She hadn’t.

Emily immediately called Jason.

He came over an hour later, looking exhausted.

At first, he was angry with me.

Then Emily asked him why he’d never mentioned having another child.

Jason started crying.

He admitted that talking about Tommy still hurt, and he’d been terrified that having another baby would bring back everything he’d tried to bury.

Emily hugged him.

“You don’t have to pretend he never existed just because it hurts,” she whispered.

Later that evening, Jason brought out a photograph of Tommy.

For the first time, Emily saw the little boy who had made her husband a father years before they met.

And they decided their daughter should grow up knowing about her big brother.
