The Day My Daughter Learned About Life’s Little Mysteries

One day, my daughter asked where babies come from, and I explained it gently—how they grow inside their mother and are brought into the world with love. The next day, a boy in her class told her babies come from cabbages. She confidently corrected him, certain she was right.
Soon after, the boy’s parents asked to meet. Nervous, I wondered if my explanation had caused trouble. Instead, they smiled and explained the cabbage story was a playful family tradition meant to keep things light for children. Their son was upset because he thought his story had been taken away.
I suggested a compromise: what if we told the kids that babies are brought into the world with love, and the cabbage garden is a magical place where families’ dreams grow? That way, both stories could be true in their own way.
They loved the idea. A week later, the school held a “Garden of Stories” day. The children drew stars, families, and yes—cabbages.
My daughter summed it up perfectly: “Stories are like seeds. They grow differently, but they all make the world beautiful.”
The boy grinned. “And sometimes,” he added, “cabbages grow magic.” 🌱
