I Refused to Pay for My Girlfriend’s Family Dinner and Her Reaction Caught Me Off Guard

I’ve never been lucky in love, so when I met a girl on a dating app and we clicked instantly, it felt too good to be true. After a few great dates, I asked her to be my girlfriend. Soon after, she suggested I meet her family — and asked if I’d pay for dinner to make a good impression. I agreed, assuming it would just be her parents.
It wasn’t.
When we arrived, her entire extended family was there. I was surprised but stayed quiet. No one spoke to me while we waited, but once seated, everything changed. They began ordering the most expensive items on the menu, one after another. I tried signaling my girlfriend to stop, but she ignored me.
The bill came — $400. She expected me to pay. I refused.
As tension filled the table, the waiter discreetly handed me a note: “She’s not who she says she is.” I excused myself, and he explained this wasn’t the first time she had done this.
I paid only my share and quietly left.
Later, a quick search confirmed it — similar stories, warnings, red flags. I blocked her everywhere.
For once, I didn’t feel unlucky. I felt like I dodged something much worse.
