My Dad Gave My Inheritance to My Brother, I Can’t Even Afford Childcare

I’ve been the “responsible” child my whole life. For 12 years, I paid my parents’ bills—electricity, groceries, medical costs, emergencies. I never complained. They were my parents.

My brother helped occasionally, but most of it fell on me. He was always given a pass.

A few weeks ago, my dad mentioned inheritance. I assumed things would be divided fairly.

I was wrong.

He told me everything would go to my brother.

When I asked why, he said, “Your husband will take care of you.”

That one sentence erased everything I had done.

Yes, my husband is well-off—but we’re not even on great terms. I support myself and help raise our kids. That shouldn’t disqualify me.

Meanwhile, my brother—no kids, fewer responsibilities, never supported them like I did—gets everything. Why? Because he carries the “family name.”

Later, my mom told me my dad had already started transferring assets before even speaking to me. She called it “tradition” and tried to convince me I was overreacting.

That hurt the most.

After everything I gave, I feel invisible—like my years of sacrifice meant nothing.

And now I’m left wondering… was I ever valued at all?
