My DIL Wanted to Impose Her Vegan Lifestyle on Me—I Gave Her a Reality Check

I’m Patricia, 66, a widow. After retiring, I moved into my son’s house because I felt lonely living alone.
The problem started with food. My daughter-in-law is vegan, but I’ve always eaten meat. When I told her I needed it as part of my daily diet, she said, “My house, my rules. Show some respect.”
I tried to adjust, but after a week, I couldn’t take it anymore. So one Sunday, I hosted a small BBQ in the backyard and invited a few friends. She didn’t say anything at the time, and I thought maybe things were okay.
That night, I found my luggage packed by the front door.
My son told me he would drive me back to my own house. He said I had crossed a line by disrespecting his wife’s rules.
I was devastated.
I refused the ride and told him he would have to live with the memory of putting his own mother out.
I still can’t forgive him.
This was my son’s home—I thought I had some right to feel comfortable there. Instead, I was made to feel like a guest who overstayed her welcome.
