HE WANTED TO STOP CHILD SUPPORT TO BUY HIS WIFE A NEW CAR

When my ex called during work, I knew something was wrong.

He rarely contacted me unless it involved our son. But this time, his request left me speechless.

He wanted me to pause child support payments for six months because his wife needed a new car.

Then he added, “You don’t really need the money anyway.”

I almost laughed.

Child support isn’t a luxury. It’s not optional. And it definitely isn’t meant to fund someone else’s purchases.

Instead of arguing, I calmly told him we could discuss it at our son’s next drop-off.

A few days later, I handed him an envelope.

He smiled as he opened it, clearly expecting me to agree.

Instead, the letter explained that if he planned to stop financially supporting our son, then our son would be living with him full-time for the next six months.

That meant school runs, meals, homework, doctor appointments, laundry, and every other responsibility that comes with raising a child.

Three days later, he called.

He admitted he couldn’t handle having our son full-time because his household was already “under stress.”

A week after that, the full child support payment arrived right on schedule, along with a message asking to return to our normal arrangement.

Later that evening, his wife reached out privately to apologize.

She told me she never even asked for a new car.

That’s when I realized the issue was never about money.

It was about responsibility—and suddenly, he didn’t want any part of it.
