My husband and I almost skipped my sister Rachel’s wedding because money was tight. His hours had been cut, we had two kids, a mortgage, and bills piling up. Still, Rachel was my only sister, so we drove four hours and gave her $300, more than we could comfortably afford.
During the lavish reception, Rachel began opening gifts publicly and commenting on their value.
