A woman shoved ahead of my 81-year-old father at airport security and complained that “Grandpa” was making everyone late.
Dad touched my arm.
“Let it go.”
Seconds later, two uniformed pilots walked past—and suddenly stopped.
One stared at the silver wings hidden inside Dad’s jacket.
“Sir… is your name Thomas?”
Dad quietly said yes.
Both pilots immediately removed their caps.
I was stunned.
My entire life, Dad had told me he worked in airport maintenance.
But at our gate, one pilot finally revealed the truth.
Thirty-four years earlier, Dad had been an airline captain and flight instructor.
During one flight, a serious mechanical failure occurred while approaching the airport. Dad and his crew managed to land safely with every passenger aboard.
