My Husband Left Me Stranded with Our Sick Toddler to Take My SUV for the Weekend, Texting Me to ‘Figure It Out’ – But My Response Made Him Regret Every Word

I was holding our feverish two-year-old when I opened the garage and realized my SUV was gone.
My husband, Trent, had taken it to his friend’s house for the weekend without asking.
Our son Silas had a 103-degree fever, was unusually sleepy, and wouldn’t drink. The nurse told me to take him to the emergency room.
I called Trent twice. He rejected both calls.
When I explained what was happening, he texted:
“You’re a mother. Figure it out.”
So I did.
I installed our spare car seat in a rideshare and took Silas to the ER myself. Thankfully, doctors believed it was a viral infection and sent us home with instructions.
Sunday, Trent called.
He needed me to follow him to the repair shop so he could pick up his own car.
“I can’t,” I said. “Silas is still sick.”
“So what am I supposed to do?”
I remembered his words.
“You’re a father, Trent. Figure it out.”
When he finally came home, I told him the real problem wasn’t one selfish weekend.
I was tired of being the parent who knew everything while he simply helped when convenient.
“If we’re staying married, this changes.”
And slowly, it did.
He learned Silas’s doctor, downloaded the daycare app, handled appointments, medicine, groceries, and car seats.
Not because he deserved praise.
Because that’s parenting.
