My Brother Proposed at My Wedding After I Told Him Not To — So I Had a Surprise at His Wedding

A few weeks before my wedding, my younger brother, Kevin, told me he wanted to propose to his girlfriend during our reception.
I told him no.
I’d spent months planning the wedding with my wife, and I didn’t want our day turning into somebody else’s engagement party.
Kevin got annoyed.
Then Mom called and said I was being selfish.
I stood my ground.
Well, he did it anyway.
Right after our first dance, Kevin grabbed the microphone, called his girlfriend onto the dance floor, and proposed.
Everyone started cheering.
My wife stood beside me looking completely uncomfortable.
When I asked Kevin to stop, Mom threatened to leave if I made a scene.
So I swallowed my anger.
A year later, Kevin got married.
He actually asked me to give a speech.
I agreed.
During the reception, I stood up and pulled a photograph from my jacket.
It showed Kevin proposing at my wedding while my wife stood awkwardly in the background.
I held it up.
“Kevin taught me that weddings are apparently perfect for making announcements,” I said.
He stopped smiling.
“So tonight, I have some big news of my own.”
The room went silent.
Then I added, “But I’ll share it another day, because tonight belongs to Kevin and his wife.”
People laughed.
His bride smiled.
Mom looked embarrassed.
Afterward, Kevin pulled me aside.
“Okay,” he admitted. “Now I understand why you were upset.”
It took him a year, but he finally apologized.
