I Saved an Empty Seat for My Late Son at My Wedding — Then a Stranger Sat in It

My son, Tyler, died in a motorcycle accident when he was nineteen.

He was my only child, and losing him changed everything.

Four years later, I met a wonderful man named Michael.

When we decided to get married, I had one special request.

I wanted an empty chair in the front row for Tyler.

Michael understood completely.

On our wedding day, I walked down the aisle expecting to see that chair.

Instead, a young man was sitting there.

He looked about Tyler’s age.

I was upset but didn’t want to interrupt the ceremony.

Afterward, I pulled Michael aside.

“Who was sitting in Tyler’s seat?”

He took my hand.

“His name is Andrew. There’s something you should know.”

Then he explained.

When Tyler died, we’d agreed to donate his organs.

Andrew had received Tyler’s heart.

Months earlier, Michael had helped me respond to a letter from the recipient’s family. With everyone’s permission, he’d eventually arranged for Andrew to attend.

I couldn’t speak.

Michael admitted he should have asked before making it a surprise.

Then Andrew approached us.

He introduced himself and handed me a small card.

Inside, he’d written:

“Your son gave me the chance to have a future. I promise I won’t waste it.”

I started crying.

I asked Andrew if I could hug him.

He nodded.

That chair would always belong to Tyler.

But meeting Andrew helped me understand how much of my son’s kindness was still in the world.
