I Secretly Invited a Young Teacher to Meet My Single Grandson — Then I Discovered They Had Been Hiding Something From Me

I’ve been raising my grandson, Ethan, since he was six years old.

He’s 28 now, has a steady job, and spends most evenings at home.

Whenever I ask about girlfriends, he changes the subject.

I work at a preschool, and a few months ago, a young teacher named Hannah joined our staff.

She’s 27, friendly, and incredibly patient with children.

I thought she’d be perfect for Ethan.

So I invited her over for dinner without telling either of them why.

When Hannah walked through the door, Ethan stopped in the hallway.

“Hannah? What are you doing here?”

She looked equally surprised.

“Wait. This is your grandmother?”

I started laughing.

“You two already know each other?”

Then Ethan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small key.

“Grandma, there’s something we need to tell you.”

Apparently, they’d been dating for almost a year.

They’d met at a friend’s birthday party and recently rented an apartment together.

I couldn’t understand why Ethan hadn’t told me.

Then he explained.

**”I was afraid you’d feel like I was abandoning you.”**

After raising him alone for so many years, I’d become the center of his life.

He worried moving out would leave me lonely.

I hugged him.

“Sweetheart, I raised you so you could build your own life.”

Hannah started crying.

We ended up having a wonderful dinner.

And the following weekend, I helped them move.

**I thought I was finding my grandson a girlfriend. He’d already found someone he wanted to build a future with.**
