While We Were Opening Christmas Gifts, My 5-Year-Old Yelled, ‘Yes! The Other Mom Kept Her Promise!’ – After a Long Pause, My Husband Finally Spoke

Christmas morning should’ve been perfect. Wrapping paper everywhere. Coffee going cold. Our five-year-old, Simon, bouncing with excitement.
Then he opened a gift my husband and I never bought.
It was an expensive collector model car. Simon hugged it and yelled, “Yes! The other mom kept her promise!”
My stomach dropped.
“The… other mom?”
Simon smiled. “She said if I was good, she’d get it for me. She said we’re going on a trip. Me, her, and Daddy.”
I turned to my husband. He’d gone pale.
In the kitchen, he finally admitted the truth. The babysitter we’d fired months earlier—Megan—had kept messaging him. He’d let her visit Simon when I was at work. Then he overheard her telling our son to call her his “other mom” and keep their visits secret.
And that gift? He hadn’t put it under the tree.
Simon then told us she’d asked him for a house key so she could “surprise us with Christmas dinner.”
I called the police and drove to her apartment.
When she opened the door, she was wearing an apron. Foil-covered dishes lined her counter.
“I just needed to get you out of the picture,” she said. “Mike and I are in love.”
She lunged at me right as officers arrived.
Megan was arrested and placed on probation with mandatory psychiatric treatment. There’s a restraining order now.
Christmas never felt the same again.
But at least we’re safe.
