I Refuse to Watch My Ex-Husband’s New Wife Raise My Children

My ex remarried, and his new wife has been trying to erase me from our kids’ lives—even changing their last names without my permission. I’ve hired a lawyer, but the process is slow.

During the divorce, my ex got primary custody since he had stability, while I was starting over after being a stay-at-home mom. I have visitation twice a month, but they live with him—and that’s where the influence is strongest.

His wife makes the kids feel guilty for even mentioning me. My daughter recently called in tears after being told she shouldn’t talk about me anymore. I stayed calm, reassured her that her feelings are valid, and that loving me isn’t wrong.

Since then, I’ve been careful—showing up with love and consistency—but it feels like I’m slowly being erased. I worry that staying quiet sends the wrong message, like love can be replaced.

I don’t want conflict or revenge. I just want my children to feel safe loving both parents without guilt. But with limited time and growing emotional distance, I’m struggling to stay present and strong without putting them in the middle.
