I Left the Apartment Spotless—I Never Expected It Would Lead to Something Beautiful

When the flat I rented was put up for sale, I had no choice but to move.
I had only lived there for a year, but it had become my peaceful little haven—quiet, sunny, and filled with the scent of lavender candles.
On my final day, I cleaned everything carefully. I scrubbed the floors, polished the tiles, and left a small bouquet of daisies on the table. I wanted to leave the place better than I had found it.
The next morning, my landlady called.
I expected a complaint, but instead, she thanked me. She said the buyers couldn’t believe someone had just moved out because the flat looked brand new.
“That’s how I was raised,” I told her. “Leave things better than you found them.”
After a pause, she asked, “Are you always this thoughtful?”
I laughed awkwardly and admitted that taking care of things sometimes felt easier than taking care of myself.
Then she surprised me.
“How is someone like you still alone?” she asked. “You sound like the kind of person people hope to find.”
Before I could answer, she offered to introduce me to a kind, single friend of hers.
For the first time that day, I smiled.
Sometimes kindness returns in unexpected ways—not through grand gestures, but through clean floors, a simple phone call, and someone reminding you that you deserve more than loneliness.
