My Husband Used His Mother’s Name to Get $15,000 From Me

One evening, my husband, Jason, came home and told me his mother urgently needed $15,000.

He said her credit was too poor to qualify for a loan and insisted she would repay me within a year.

I asked what the money was for.

He refused to explain.

When I suggested he take out the loan himself, Jason claimed that because he worked at a bank, additional debt could hurt his career.

I didn’t like it, but after days of pressure, I finally agreed.

A month later, I saw his mother at a family dinner and casually asked when she planned to begin repayments.

She stared at me.

“What loan?”

I thought she was joking.

Then she became angry.

“I never borrowed money from you.”

That night, I confronted Jason.

At first, he blamed his mother and claimed she was embarrassed.

Then I showed him the bank transfer.

He finally admitted the truth.

The money had gone to a private account he used to cover gambling losses he had hidden from me for nearly two years.

He had used his mother as a story because he knew I would never approve otherwise.

I immediately separated our finances and spoke with an attorney.

Jason begged me to stay and promised treatment.

I told him the debt wasn’t the only problem.

He had watched me sign my name to a $15,000 obligation while knowing every reason he gave me was a lie.

Money can be repaid.

Trust is much harder to refinance.
