What My Husband Said After I Gave Birth

The first few days after having our son were harder than I expected.

I was exhausted, sore, emotional, and frustrated that even simple things suddenly required help.

My husband, Noah, never complained.

He helped me stand up, brought me water, changed diapers in the middle of the night, and somehow remembered all the little things I kept forgetting.

One afternoon, I made it to the bathroom by myself.

I felt proud until I realized I didn’t have enough strength to make it back to bed.

I called his name quietly.

Noah came in immediately.

He helped me up, fixed my clothes, wrapped an arm around me, and carried most of my weight back to the bedroom.

I was mortified.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “You shouldn’t have to do all this.”

He stopped.

Then he looked at me and said, “You spent nine months carrying our son. You went through labor. You’re feeding him, healing, and barely sleeping.”

He pulled the blanket over me.

“This isn’t me taking care of you because you’re weak.”

I started crying.

He smiled.

“This is me taking care of the person who just did the strongest thing I’ve ever seen.”

That sentence stayed with me.

Recovery eventually got easier.

I could walk normally again.

I stopped needing help with basic things.

But I never forgot those days when I felt least like myself—and the man beside me never once made me feel like a burden.
