I Inherited My Grandpa’s House—Then My Mom Revealed a Secret That Shattered Everything

I’m Kayla, 20. My dad left when I was born, and my mom wasn’t around either. They separated and eventually built new families. I was raised by my grandfather, who told me my parents chose not to keep me. My grandparents adopted me, and after my grandmother died, Grandpa became my whole world.
When he passed away, he left me his house and savings. Almost immediately, my step-siblings began sending angry messages, demanding I share the inheritance. I ignored them—until my mom reached out.
She didn’t ask for money at first. Instead, she told me a different version of my childhood. She said my parents hadn’t abandoned me. According to her, they were young, broke, and living a carefree lifestyle. Grandpa convinced them I’d be better off with him “temporarily.” A year later, she claims she begged for me back—but Grandpa fought in court and made custody permanent, portraying them as unstable. The judge sided with him.
Now my mom and her family say Grandpa manipulated everything and that I should “fix” it by sharing what he left me.
I feel torn. Grandpa raised me with love and stability. But if my mom’s telling the truth, my life was shaped by a decision I never understood. Still, why reveal this now? Why only after he’s gone—and after money is involved? And why am I expected to give up my inheritance to repair something I didn’t break?
