I Won’t Forgive My Parents Who Made Me Feel Worthless

My parents gave my brother $200K for a house. I got a $50 gift card. When I asked why, my dad said, “He carries the family name. You’re just a daughter who married out.” I walked away.
A year later, my mom called, crying: “Your brother needs you.” Suddenly I mattered—but only because he needed help.
Growing up, I was the responsible, quiet one who asked for nothing. He was always supported and praised. Leaving hurt, but staying hurt more. I built my own life and learned to be proud without their approval.
Now I’m torn between guilt, anger, and confusion. Part of me thinks forgiveness could bring peace. Another part feels it would erase everything they did.
I don’t want revenge or empty apologies. I just want to protect my self-worth without carrying bitterness forever. I want to move forward feeling whole—not broken by the past.
