A Woman Got Brutal Critics Because She Does Not Wear a Bra to Her New Job

On my first day at a new job, I wore a sweater and pants—nothing revealing. I don’t wear bras. I haven’t for years, even at my previous job, and no one ever said a word. I simply find them uncomfortable and unnecessary.
But on day one, two coworkers approached me and said my outfit was “inappropriate” and that I should wear a bra. I was shocked—I didn’t even know them yet. I was fully covered; the only thing visible was the natural shape of my body.
On day two, I dressed even more conservatively: a T-shirt with a jacket on top. Still no bra.
Again, I got comments. One even came from my supervisor’s secretary, saying there’s an “unspoken dress code” and that the shape of my chest was too noticeable.
I explained there’s no official dress code and that I was dressed professionally. But it didn’t seem to matter.
For two years at my previous workplace, I dressed the same way—sweaters, blouses, jackets—and no one ever complained, even though I have a larger chest.
Now I’m questioning everything.
Am I actually being inappropriate… or are people just uncomfortable with something that shouldn’t be an issue at all?
