I Refuse to Stay Married After My In-Laws Humiliated Me at a Family Gathering

I attended my mother-in-law’s birthday party determined to make a good impression. I spent six hours baking her dream cake from scratch, arrived early to help decorate, served food to more than twenty-five guests, and stayed behind after lunch to wash every single dish while everyone else relaxed outside.
I was exhausted, sweaty, and standing at the sink when my father-in-law suddenly snapped a photo of me.
At first, I thought nothing of it—until minutes later my phone started buzzing.
My sister-in-law had sent me a screenshot from the family group chat.
There I was, bent over the sink with the caption: “Look at our son’s little maid. Guess he trained his wife well!”
Dozens of laughing emojis followed. My stomach dropped.
I looked around the room, horrified, only to realize several family members were staring at me and laughing. My mother-in-law smirked. My father-in-law raised his glass like it was some hilarious joke.
But what shattered me most was my husband.
He laughed too.
I waited for him to defend me—to say something, anything—but he just shrugged and said, “Relax, babe. It’s only a joke.”
A joke.
After everything I had done for them, after being treated like a servant in front of everyone, he stood there and laughed while they humiliated me.
I quietly grabbed my purse, walked out, and drove straight to my sister’s house.
That night, I told him if he could laugh while his family disrespected me, then he clearly didn’t love me enough to be my husband.
The next morning, I called a lawyer.
