My Brother Has No Kids but Refuses to Share His Inheritance With Mine—I’m Furious

After my mom passed away, my brother and I each inherited $90K. He chose to save his share. I have five kids and used mine quickly to cover daily expenses, school needs, and bills.

When my money ran out, I called him and demanded half of his. I told him my kids needed it more. He hung up—and stopped speaking to me. I was furious, stressed, and struggling to pay for school, and I even told my kids their uncle refused to help them.

Two weeks later, everything changed.

My oldest came home holding an envelope. Inside was a letter explaining that my brother had set up college funds for each of my children—$15K each. Nearly all of his inheritance. The funds were locked until they reached college and managed by a trustee, meaning I couldn’t access them at all.

My kids were overjoyed. I was speechless.

He hadn’t refused to help—he had protected their future in a way I hadn’t.

Now I’m left with guilt and questions. I spent everything trying to support them in the present, but he gave them something lasting. And after calling him selfish, I don’t know how to face him.

I don’t know if I was wrong… but I know I need to fix this.
