I Left My Grandson’s Party After My Son’s Cruel Comment

I’m 50, and I’ve never believed in dressing “old.” I love bright colors, makeup, and clothes that make me feel confident.
At my grandson’s birthday party, I noticed people staring. Then my son walked up to me and said, in front of everyone, “That outfit isn’t appropriate for your age. You’re a grandmother—dress like one.”
I froze. I felt humiliated.
I left the party immediately, heartbroken. I’ve always wanted my children to feel proud of me—not embarrassed.
Now I keep questioning myself. Am I overreacting? Maybe he thought he was helping, but the way he said it hurt deeply.
I don’t know what to do—change who I am to avoid judgment, or stay true to myself and risk more moments like this.
I just want to feel respected… without losing who I am.
