My Husband Wants Me to Pay for His Daughter’s Wedding Using My Daughter’s College Fund — I Had a Better Idea

When my husband suggested using my daughter’s college fund — money left by her late father — to pay for his grown daughter’s wedding, I nearly dropped my fork.

Ava was only 16. That money was her father David’s final gift before he passed away: a promise that she’d have opportunities he never had.

But Greg acted like it was no big deal.

“Family helps family,” he said casually over dinner, while his daughter Becca sat there silently expecting me to agree.

I looked at my daughter, still talking about chemistry class and college dreams, completely unaware that the adults at the table were discussing sacrificing her future for a wedding.

Inside, I was furious.

But I stayed calm.

Two days later, I gave Greg my answer.

“Fine,” I said. “I’ll help — under one condition.”

I handed him a contract requiring every penny to be repaid within one year.

Then I placed divorce papers beside it.

“If you won’t protect Ava’s future, I will,” I told him.

Suddenly, the entitlement disappeared.

Greg moved out two weeks later.

The wedding still happened — just smaller and funded properly.

And Ava’s college fund remained untouched.

That night, she hugged me tightly and whispered:
“Thank you for choosing me.”
