After My Surgery Left Me Bedridden, My Husband Ignored Me While His Mom Cooked and Did Laundry Only for Him – Then My Elderly Neighbor Stepped In

I never imagined the loneliest time of my life would happen while I was still married.
When my husband’s kidneys failed, I donated one of mine to save him. He cried when the tests confirmed I was a match and told me I was his “only hope.”
The surgery saved his life.
Mine left me temporarily unable to walk.
At first, my husband acted concerned. For maybe three days.
Then he stopped helping me. He stopped asking about my recovery. His mother moved into our apartment and treated me like an inconvenience instead of the woman who had just given her son a kidney.
She cooked meals only for him and labeled leftovers:
“DON’T TOUCH. PERSONALLY FOR ALAN.”
Most days, I survived on crackers and cereal because I couldn’t even reach the kitchen properly from my wheelchair.
Then I discovered my husband had secretly canceled my physical therapy appointments behind my back.
A week later, our elderly neighbor showed up carrying a folder that had accidentally been delivered to her apartment.
Inside were apartment listings and moving estimates with my husband’s name on them.
Dated before my surgery.
He had already planned to leave me… before I gave him my kidney.
That was the moment everything changed.
Three months later, I was walking again.
Not because of my husband.
Because I finally stopped begging emotionally unavailable people to love me — and started choosing myself instead.
