My Rich DIL Invited Me on a ‘Girls’ Spa Weekend,’ Then Handed Me a Baby Monitor the Moment We Arrived – So I Made Sure She Learned Her Lesson

At 62, I’d grown used to always putting everyone else first. So when my daughter-in-law invited me on a luxury spa weekend, I thought it was finally my turn to relax.

Instead, the moment we arrived, she handed me a baby monitor and cheerfully announced that I’d be watching the grandchildren while she and her friends enjoyed the spa.

I smiled for the kids, but inside, my heart broke.

Rather than argue, I enrolled the children in the resort’s supervised activity program, charged to my daughter-in-law’s room, and booked myself the same spa package she was enjoying.

While relaxing, I overheard her bragging that bringing me had saved them the cost of hiring a babysitter. Worse still, she admitted my own son had suggested it because, in his words, “Mom never says no.”

That hurt more than anything.

When my daughter-in-law confronted me over the charges, I calmly told her I had simply given myself the same consideration they’d given themselves. I explained that I loved my grandchildren deeply, but I was no longer willing to be treated like unpaid help.

A few weeks later, my son apologized sincerely. I accepted it, but I also made a promise to myself.

After a lifetime of sacrificing for everyone else, I finally learned that choosing myself wasn’t selfish—it was necessary. Sometimes the greatest lesson we can teach our family is that our kindness deserves respect too.
