My Ex-Husband Took Everything in the Divorce—Exactly as I Planned

During our divorce, my ex-husband, Daniel, fought aggressively for everything we owned.
He demanded the house, our expensive car, and nearly all the money in our shared account. He acted as though leaving me with nothing would prove that he had won.
My lawyer expected me to fight back, but I calmly agreed.
Daniel smiled throughout the final meeting. He believed I was too heartbroken and exhausted to defend myself.
The moment the papers were signed, I laughed.
What Daniel didn’t know was that the house had serious structural problems. Repairs would cost more than its remaining value, and the mortgage payments were already increasing.
The luxury car he proudly claimed wasn’t actually ours. It was leased, with several expensive payments and penalties still attached.
As for the money, most of it had come from a loan Daniel secretly took out using our joint account. By insisting on taking the entire balance, he also accepted responsibility for repaying the debt.
Meanwhile, the small business he had dismissed as “worthless” remained entirely mine. I had quietly built it for years, and it was finally beginning to make a substantial profit.
Three months later, Daniel called me angrily after discovering the truth.
“You tricked me!” he shouted.
“No,” I replied. “You were so determined to take everything that you never bothered to ask what any of it was worth.”
He wanted to win the divorce.
Instead, his greed gave me the clean beginning I had planned.
