My son, Daniel, was only 33 when he became seriously ill. Doctors warned us that his condition would worsen quickly and that he might eventually need constant care.
His wife, Vanessa, didn’t stay.
“I won’t waste my life watching him become helpless,” she said before packing her bags and leaving.
I couldn’t abandon my child. I sold my house, emptied my savings, and paid for treatments that insurance wouldn’t cover. I cooked for Daniel, bathed him, and held his hand through the nights when the pain became unbearable.
Vanessa never visited.
After Daniel died, she suddenly returned for the funeral. Because they were still legally married, she claimed the house, his accounts, and nearly everything he owned.
