My 72-Year-Old Mom’s Younger Boyfriend Always Left Family Dinner Before Dessert – One Night, My Daughter Followed Him and Came Back with the Truth

For six months, my mom’s boyfriend Richard had one strange rule: every Sunday, no matter what, he left our house by exactly 7:30 p.m.

My mom had been alone for 11 years after Dad died, and Richard made her happy again. He brought flowers, fixed things around the house, and treated my teenage daughter Chloe kindly.

But his excuses for leaving kept changing.

A work call. A plumber. A neighbor who needed help.

Then, on Mom’s 72nd birthday, Richard checked his watch at 7:26 and suddenly announced he had to leave—even though Mom begged him to stay for dessert.

Minutes later, Chloe disappeared.

Forty minutes after that, she burst through the door crying and carrying Richard’s leather tote.

“You need to see what he’s hiding.”

Inside were old photographs, picture cards, a music box, and one laminated note:

“My name is Evelyn. Richard is my son. I am safe with him.”

Chloe had followed him to a memory-care facility.

We rushed there and found Richard sitting beside an elderly woman.

His mother had dementia, and every evening her condition worsened. He stayed with her because she became terrified after dark.

Richard had hidden the truth because a previous girlfriend had left him over it.

Mom simply took his hand.

“You don’t have to choose between caring for your mother and loving me.”

After that, Sunday dinners started earlier.
