I Canceled My Sister’s Free Childcare—Her Cruel Words Cost Her My Support

My sister and I were always close, or at least I believed we were. So when she had kids and asked me to babysit, I never hesitated. For the past five years, I’ve been her go-to babysitter—every weekend, every “emergency,” anytime she needed help. I never questioned it because I love my nieces and nephews.
Last week she asked if I could watch the kids for two weeks while she and her husband went to Hawaii for their anniversary. I happily agreed.
But yesterday, while the kids were playing, I overheard a conversation between my sister and her husband that completely shattered me.
She said, “My sister has always done whatever I tell her. She’s like a little lapdog that will do anything for my affection… even though I feel nothing for her.”
Then she added something even worse.
“She probably watches the kids to compensate for her terrible love life.”
I felt sick.
I walked in and told her that if she thought so little of me, she could find someone else to watch her kids while she went on vacation. Then I left.
Now she’s calling nonstop, saying she’ll pay me if I come back and stick to the plan.
But now I’m wondering… after hearing what she really thinks of me, should I help her at all?
