I Fell for My Daughter-in-Law’s Grumpy Neighbor, but Thanksgiving Exposed the Awful Truth About Our Relationship – Story of the Day

Living with my son Andrew and his pregnant wife Kate was not as peaceful as I expected. Kate disliked my constant advice, while I believed I was only helping her manage the house.
Then their grumpy neighbor, Peter, unexpectedly invited me to dinner. At first, the evening felt awkward, but everything changed when we discovered our shared love of jazz. We danced without music, shared a gentle kiss, and soon became inseparable. Peter made me feel happy and alive again.
On Thanksgiving, however, I overheard him speaking with Kate about a record player. Kate thanked him for agreeing to their “charade,” and I realized she and Andrew had offered him the gift in exchange for dating me.
Furious and humiliated, I confronted them. Kate admitted they had created the plan because my constant criticism was making her pregnancy more stressful. Andrew believed Peter and I could make each other happy while giving Kate some peace.
I stormed outside, but Peter followed me. He admitted he had initially accepted the arrangement because he thought I was unbearable. However, after spending time with me, his feelings had become real.
“You made me feel alive again,” he confessed. “I’ve fallen in love with you.”
I had fallen for him too, so I gave him another chance—with one condition: we were keeping the record player.
From that Thanksgiving forward, Peter and I remained together, celebrating each year with music, laughter, and love.
