The Lie That Ended My Pressure

When my son got married, my daughter-in-law made it clear she didn’t want children. I thought she was being selfish, so I kept bringing it up — at holidays, on calls, any chance I got. I pushed and pushed until one day she finally announced she was pregnant. I felt proud, believing I had changed her mind.

I saw her once at around four months and thought everything seemed normal. When the “baby” was born, they told me no visits were allowed. I couldn’t accept that, so I showed up anyway, expecting to finally meet my grandchild.

But when they opened the door, something felt off. They looked pale and uneasy. Then I looked around and realized there was no baby at all.

That’s when they told me the truth — there never had been a pregnancy. They had faked the entire thing just to get me to stop pressuring them. They said my constant nagging pushed them to that extreme.

I was stunned and furious. I had only wanted a grandchild, but instead, I was met with a lie that made me question everything between us.
